Thoughts Become Things

My trip to New York was great and I've created some memories that I will no doubt keep with me for the rest of my life.

We did a lot of walking and a lot of eating. Hopefully the two balanced each other out.

There is one incident that kind of sticks out in my mind that I'd like to share with you ...

I figured that one of the things that must be done to truly embrace the Manhattan experience is to eat at a deli. We could've gone to any deli since there seems to be one on every block, but we decided to go to the Carnegie deli. I have never been so I didn't know what to expect meaning GOOD GOD do people really eat an entire deli sandwich on their own?!?

Not knowing the portion sizes, my friend and I each ordered a sandwich. BIG MISTAKE. If ever you find yourself at a deli in Manhattan, I urge you to share your sandwich with a friend. Trust me.

Here is the proof:

Insane, right? Don't ask why a side of onion rings were ordered. I think we were just feeling brave.

Here is what was left after we had our fill:

We managed to eat about a quarter of our sandwiches. I just didn't know where I was supposed to put all of that. We decided to doggy bag it since it was such a waste to have the people working at the deli toss all that food. Our intention wasn't to save it for later, but rather to give it to someone on the streets. I have never given food to a homeless person before, only money. I didn't know how to go about it ... do I just leave it beside them where they are sitting? I didn't think too hard about it thought. I just figured we'd know what to do when the moment arose.

Well we were walking and walking and there was nobody who looked like the stereotypical homeless person. It looked like we were going to have to throw the food out after all since we were nearly back at the hotel.

We're about five minutes away when we pass a man who doesn't seem to be homeless and who is saying out loud to no one in particular, "Can someone please give me money for a sandwich?"

Are you kidding me?? First, I have to say that I have never heard a person ask for money SPECIFICALLY for a sandwich. Here we are, wondering what we're going to do with these sandwiches and there is someone asking for money for A SANDWICH.

At first it kind of caught me off guard and we kept walking. But then I slowed and looked at my friend and said, "I'm pretty sure he just asked for money for a sandwich." There it was. Our sign. The person we had been waiting for ever since our intention of bagging the food to give to someone was born in that Carnegie deli.

The smile on his face when he exclaimed, "Oh, look at all this food!" was almost too much for my heart to take. I will never forget that moment for as long as I live.

It may seem coincidental. I mean, COME ON, right?! But when you think about it, have you ever had a thought that didn't really see itself through?

Just think about it.

Our thoughts really do become things. So make all your thoughts good ones.
