Tick Tock

Wait ... it's March?!? How did that happen???

It's funny how I'm amazed whenever a new month rolls around. I know it's coming. It's inevitable. But whenever I need to flip over a page in my calendar, I am flabbergasted that time has moved so quickly.

I guess it's because sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in one place and it gets a little scary when the universe says, "Well, sweetie, I can't wait for you. I need to keep going."

What does it mean now that it is March?

--> March break is in two weeks.
--> Report cards are due, yet again.
--> There are four months left of school.
--> It has officially been 14 months since I've cut my hair.
--> I really should make an appointment.
--> I will get it cut during the March break.
--> It is decided.
--> Four points was on my hair???

I think the thing that gets to me the most when time seems to just fly, is that I don't feel like I've accomplished much, hence the feelings of amazement when a new month comes along. Perhaps I need to start making a monthly checklist of things I want to accomplish that will make me feel like I'm forging ahead. I know that sounds silly, but it really sucks knowing that whether I decide to move on or stay still, time isn't waiting around for me.

So my March goals are:

  • Go to four yoga classes. Preferably once a week (this isn't a test I need to cram for at the last second).
  • Go to three other fitness classes. There are lots to choose from at my gym, so I don't want to just say Spinning, and then find out I hate Spinning.
  • Find and cook 4 different recipes (speaking of which, I've been meaning to give out the protein bar recipe to those who asked for it -- also I ran out and want to make more -- but my friend borrowed the magazine and hasn't given it back to me yet).
  • Add $1000 to my savings account.
  • Go skating with two of my nieces. I haven't used my skates in a good six years. And I'm Canadian. That is just pitiful.
  • Lose 5 lbs.
  • Get my hair did. Layers and side-swept bangs (fringe), I'm jonesing for you.
Those goals are not far-fetched at all. For some reason, I feel better about things when I can check things off of a list. I don't feel like I'm standing still so much. If this works (and I'm sure it will), I will need to do this for every month, for the rest of my life. The reason I get so bored with my life is that I don't seek new things out. I may say in the back of my head, "Oh I would love to do this or sign up for that," but those are just words. And yes, right now my list is just words on a computer screen, but they are specific and not fleeting and they've got a box beside them waiting to be filled in (or they will when I write it down on paper).

I will let you know how I do.

"Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it, you can never get it back." - Harvey MacKay

Those are some good goals for the month! $1000 in savings in one month is awesome. You go girl!

So, about that $1,000 into savings in one month. Either ...
a) You make a ton of money as a teacher,
b) You live on next to nothing, so can put hard-earned earnings into savings,
c) You plan to do taxes and are expecting a healthy return
or
d) You plan to win the lottery

Do tell - the rest of us want to know how you do it!

Somi's Nilsa, luckily I live in a country where teachers are actually valued, so we get paid a pretty decent sum of money that goes up in pay (a raise every year) until we max out at eleven years of teaching. Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with my salary ... if anyone wants to become a teacher, move to Ontario, Canada. Seriously.

And about that lottery? I do plan on winning it. Multiple times.

Either I'm having an awful day or this list is super ambitious. I feel like you're doing your and my list for the month. So, thank you.

For the last 2 months, as soon as a new month starts, my first thought is that MAYBE this will be the month I make it back home.

Nah. Not happening. I have no reason to believe that March is that month for me. Mayyybe April.

You're right, teachers should be valued. Canada is a better country for that.

We value teachers here, we just don't know how to pay them well enough so they don't have to turn tricks to make a living.

You deserve a hair cut! I can't imagine. I have to cut mine every 3 weeks! Yikes...

I would love to save like you!

Best wishes to a good March!
