The Gossip That Wouldn't DIE!!

I'm a sucker for cheesy inspirational posters and, as a teacher, I am lucky in that I can hang a whole bunch of them in my classroom without so much as an eye roll from my students or fellow teachers when they see them.

A few that have a permanent spot on my walls are:

30 years from now, it won't matter what shoes you wore, how your hair looked, or the jeans you bought. What will matter is what you learned and how you used it.

~~~
Be the change you want to see in the world.
~~~

Winners are too busy to be sad, too positive to be doubtful, too optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated.

~~~
Even Einsten asked questions.
~~~

How do you live your life when nobody's watching?

~~~
My all time favourite is one that is in the form of a movie poster with the title, "The Gossip That Wouldn't Die!!!" with a girl on it pulling a Home Alone move with her hands on her cheeks.
I love the tagline of, "Will YOU be next???"
And the answer to that is, yes. You will be next. The truth is that gossip never dies. It just evolves. I *gasp* gossip. I'm trying not to, but it's so damn hard when the information is so damn juicy. But the thing with gossiping, is that it just gets old. And exhausting. And, seriously, how many times can we talk about the same damn thing?
In my quest to be a "better person in life", one of the things I need to do is stop being judgemental (because I'm the embodiment of unperfect and who am I to judge when I fuck up so royally at times) and stop talking about someone else's life as if my own depended on it.
Chasing the story gets tiring. This is why I could never be a journalist. Always looking for a new take, a new twist. Just *waiting* for something bad to happen ... for failure to occur.
I know this now as an adult, but I'm trying to instill this quality in my students for the four months that I have left with them. I mean, it's never too early to start being understanding.
I just hope they get it.
At least some of it's going to sink it... it's GOT to. Everyone has that teacher that really inspired them... for a lot of your students, it's probably you :-)
Not gossiping is hard. Especially considering how quickly a passing statement or inquiry can turn into gossiping.
I wish I had more teachers like you when I was in school. Seriously.
I gossip as well. I just don't comment when it's condemned or people say we should be saying crud like "gossiping hurts us all". I can't bring myself to do it.
At least I'm not a hypocrite! lol
Hopefully they get it, little by little. And hopefully they get it in less time than it's taken me.
Man, you're the second person today who has mentioned that stopping gossiping would be a good idea. Maybe I should also take the hint..... booooo-ness......
Yay for inspirational quotes. My Best Friend use to have a poster on her wall at university with a chess piece on it, that said "Make your Move" LOL
I like the quote about not having time to be sad. I think that you it's okay to try to not be judgmental, but you should always keep my favorite quote from the Great Gatsby with you:
"Reserving judgment is a matter of infinite hope."
I love all the sayings. Gossip is so easy to get wrapped up in, but you are right, it is exhausting. It is amazing to me that even older women gossip...and they seem to be the ones that are so bored that they chase the story and keep it going. Hopefully at least one gets it!
