I have a student in my class who picks her nose all the friggin time!!!
All the time!!
Whenever we're sitting on the carpet tiled floor, and I'm going through a lesson with the kiddies, she plops herself right in front of me, masks her finger with a kleenex (and will sometimes abandon the kleenex all together on the floor!) and will just go to town on her nostrils. She just gets right up there with no shame and all the while staring right at me.
I get so grossed out by it that I'll play the "glance her way and look to another student quickly" game thinking that she'll know I saw her and will stop immediately. No such luck. She'll still be at it ... damn peripheral vision! Usually, a normal kid will stop picking their nose and be very embarrassed if they know I've seen them commit such an act. But not this one. She's got NO SHAME! She'll stare me down as she picks! The nerve of her!
Today I just couldn't pretend like she wasn't there picking her nose anymore while I taught. So I called her on it. And I said, "Seriously? Can you PLEASE stop!?!? You can't POSSIBLY having anything left up there!"
Her response was to nod and carefully place her dirty finger on her lap.
You know she's not a kid I'd let hold my hand. Blech.
Is it wrong that I was a little bit frightened when after she stopped picking her nose she flared her nostrils so deeply at me that I swear I could make out the tip of her cerebrum?
